KPHA Involvement
As a member of the Board of Directors I have been involved with decisions ranging from the annual conference to amending the KPHA Bylaws. As a member of the communications committee, I am involved with how we deliver information about the association and its interests to the membership.

Accomplishments & Recognition
In 2017 Tyler was the recipient of KPHA's Ellen M. Buchart Memorial Scholarship. In 2018 Tyler received the Outstanding Graduate Student in Public Health Award from EKU. In 2019 Tyler received the Laurel County Health Department Trailblazer Award.

KPHA & Public Health in the Future
Since I first became involved with KPHA I have seen the organization grow year after year. This is the result of the stewardship of KPHA’s Executive Committee, Staff, Committee Chairs, and active members within the organization. Behind the scenes there is a tremendous emphasis on enhancing the organization's capacity to meet the needs of our KY Public Health Workforce and to give membership a voice (and a platform) to share their collective vision for the future.

Public Health is complex, while I can't say what the future holds or what specific challenges we will face, I can look to the past and see how we will respond. Looking at the last 5 years there are so many incredible examples of KY's Public Health Workforce tackling challenges and navigating difficult situations. From natural disasters to a global pandemic, KY Public Health always rises to the occasion to protect, promote, and ensure the health and wellness of the people that live and work within our communities.

Personal Interests, Hobbies, Future Goals/Aspirations
Tyler enjoys cooking, traveling around the state, visiting (and eating at) new places. Spending time with his wife Caitlin, and his cat Bob, his family, and his friends. Tyler enjoys the outdoors and exploring antique stores and flea markets (if you know of any good ones let him know).

I love where I live and what I do. I have tremendous respect for the agency that I serve, its history, and the work that it does within the Laurel County community. My goal is to continue working within the field of Public Health in my community and continuing to be involved with KPHA for years to come.

Advice & Tips
Get Involved! I have been fortunate to be part of KPHA for nearly 10 years. If your exposure to KPHA begins and ends at the annual conference, I encourage you to take advantage of everything KPHA offers. Get involved, whether that's taking advantage of KPHA's workforce development opportunities or volunteering for a committee, if you’re unsure of where to start, ask someone involved with KPHA how to get the most out of your membership!
