KPHA Membership Goals

At the Kentucky Public Health Association (KPHA), our members are at the heart of everything we do. As we grow, our vision is to build a vibrant, inclusive, and statewide network of public health professionals who reflect the communities we serve.

Below are the key goals guiding our membership outreach and engagement efforts:

Statewide Representation

Goal: Engage members in all 120 Kentucky counties

We believe every region matters. By expanding our reach, we ensure that all voices—urban and rural—are part of the public health conversation.

Local Health Department Participation

Goal: Representation from every Local Health Department (LHD)

Strong public health starts at the local level. We aim to connect with staff across all LHDs to foster collaboration, share best practices, and support workforce development.

Professional Diversity

Goal: Include a wide range of public health roles, such as:

  • Nurses
  • Epidemiologists
  • Health Educators
  • Environmental Health Specialists
  • Community Health Workers
  • Administrators
  • Behavioral Health Professionals
  • Allied and Support Staff

Public health is a team effort—and we welcome everyone who plays a part.

Students & Early-Career Professionals

Goal: Grow student and emerging professional membership

Our future depends on the next generation. KPHA offers mentorship, networking, and scholarship opportunities to support students and young professionals as they begin their careers.

Organizational & Sector Representation

Goal: Connect professionals from:

  • Local & state health departments
  • Hospitals and healthcare systems
  • Academic and research institutions
  • Nonprofits and advocacy groups
  • Private sector partners with a public health focus

Diverse partnerships make for a stronger, more resilient public health system.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Goal: Build a membership that reflects the racial, cultural, and geographic diversity of Kentucky

We are committed to equity, representation, and cultural humility in all that we do.
