The Kentucky Health Departments Association (KHDA) has played a pivotal role in strengthening Kentucky's public health system through workforce development and capacity-building initiatives that directly support the state's 61 local health departments. Since 2024, KHDA has provided workforce readiness funding to 32 local health departments, enabling more than 90 local public health staff to receive tuition assistance, supporting 23 new student interns, and delivering 229 training opportunities to build skills across the public health workforce. KHDA has also advanced innovative shared services strategies, including funding 120 Kentucky Association of Local Boards of Health memberships in both 2024 and 2025, supporting 16 regional meetings to promote peer learning and collaboration, launching a new KHDA website, and establishing no-cost mySidewalk access and Coursera licenses to expand equitable access to data and professional development for local health departments statewide. KHDA also leads the Kentucky Public Health AmeriCorps program, placing AmeriCorps members in local health departments to expand service capacity in critical areas such as WIC, HANDS, harm reduction, and health education, while providing members with community health worker training that cultivates a new generation of public health professionals. Together, these efforts reflect KHDA's enduring commitment to strengthening infrastructure, fostering collaboration, and ensuring Kentucky's public health system remains resilient, informed, and prepared to meet both current and emerging public health needs.
