Our Healthy Kentucky Home
The Our Healthy Kentucky Home campaign is a Team Kentucky initiative with the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) to engage and inspire Kentuckians on a personal journey of achievable health and wellness improvements through increased physical activity, improved nutritional health, and decreased social isolation through targeted interventions. Each month highlights a relevant health topic as well as achievable measures to lower personal risk and improve your overall health.
January: Diabetes
The CHFS 2023 Diabetes Report indicates that 13.8% of adults in Kentucky had diabetes in 2021 which is nearly 487,196 Kentuckians. Perfectly timed with the new year and new year’s resolutions this month will encourage a fresh start to help all Kentuckians be healthier, with focused recommendations specific to those who are diabetic or pre-diabetic.
February: Disaster Preparedness
Kentucky is among the top ten states with the most natural disasters according to data collected from FEMA from 2011 to 2023. Emergencies can happen suddenly and without warning, which highlights the importance of Kentuckians being prepared and having a plan before disaster strikes.

March: Cancer Prevention
Kentucky has some of the highest rates in the nation for common cancers. Cancer screening (such as screening for breast, lung, and colon cancer) is important because early detection greatly increases the chances for successful treatment. Kentuckians should speak to their provider to discuss cancer screening based on age, family history, and personal risk factors.
