Theodore Hanekamp Scholarship Recipients

The Theodore "Ted" Hanekamp Scholarship was named in memory of and honor of Theodore "Ted" Hanekamp who devoted his entire career to public health. In 2006, Ted was inducted into the University of Kentucky College Public Health Hall of Fame (UKCPH). Ted was also very active in the Kentucky Public Health Association (KPHA). This scholarship will be administered by KPHA and the amount will be based upon funds raised by KPHA and matched by UKCPH not to exceed $10,000 each calendar year.

Eligibility requires an awardee to be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in the College of Public Health at the University of Kentucky with a minimum of 9 hours of graduate classes. Applicants must also be a member of KPHA to be awarded the scholarship.

2023 Recipient: Julia Kollitz

Julia Kollitz

Julia Kollitz is a 4+1 student in the UK College of Public Health. Julia plans to pursue a community focused career in infectious disease and/or global health. She has been active in a myriad of public health-oriented volunteer activities. She will begin her full-time graduate studies in Fall 2023.

2022 Recipient: Kelsey Gatton

Kelsey Gatton

Kelsey Gatton is a 1st year Masters Student pursuing a degree in Health Systems and Policy Analytics through the University of Kentucky College of Public Health. She currently works full-time the College of Public Health at UK as a Research Assistant and Administrative Support Associate. She desires to find ways to bridge the gap between clinical care and community organizations to improve public health.
