September is National Preparedness Month, an observance “to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time.” As a workforce, it’s crucial to ensure that all employees are prepared to respond effectively in case of an emergency.
Be Prepared - these simple steps could SAVE YOUR LIFE!
- Step 1: Be Informed – Know what disasters and hazards affect your area.
- Step 2: Make a Plan – Take Action, Make a Plan Today!
- Step 3: Build a Kit - Make sure your emergency kit is stocked with the right items and stored/ maintained correctly.
- Step 4: Get Involved – Learn how to help your community before, during, and after a disaster or emergency.

- FEMA: Download the FEMA App to get preparedness strategies, real-time weather and emergency alerts.
- Kentucky: Download Kentucky-specific apps to keep informed, e.g., Ready Frankfort, BeReadyLexington, Ready Western KY, and KCSS Flipchart (for schools).
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): Download weather-related apps to keep informed of weather in your area, e.g., NOAA Live Weather Radar, Clime: NOAA Weather Radar, and/or NOAA Radar & Weather Forecast. For Kentucky, the National Weather Service (NWS) broadcasts from Louisville, Paducah and Jackson, KY.
